Justcloud Review: A Rip-Off Service

This is an unbiased personal Justcloud Review. Like many heavy duty torrent users and savvy consumers of digital data, I opted for a cloud storage service which would enable me unfettered access to my data in all forms, from any location on Earth. After some brief online research resulting in various forum posts, reviews and top site recommendations, I decide to try Justcloud.com. They offered a backup plan with unlimited storage.

After a brief sign up process, followed by choice in a specific plan and payment, I quickly download their proprietary client application and installed it on my principle computer which was a X1 Carbon. Justcloud’s service charges additional for numerous features including the inclusion of external drive backups which require a separate license. A simple solution was to free up enough hard drive space on your principle system, copy the files from your external and then manually back them up via the client application. This avoids the extra fees for the inclusion of a separate license.

Justcloud gets deceptively expensive when you consider some of the essential features and options they charge you for as an additional add-on. See this chart below of what they charge for some very basic essentials, especially concerning large files and or video formats which often are one in the same.

This page loads once you have created an account and appears when you attempt to logout. A convenient way to remind or goad you into upgrading your account. Here are some additional upgrade add-ons from that same page:

I was primarily using their service for a large video backup which i could then access anywhere with their unlimited cloud service. I purchased several of the more common and much needed upgrades, especially the large file size and automatic video backup which let me upload and store all video formats. Incidentally, the “supercharge backups” did absolutely nothing for my uploads and was a complete rip off concerning none of these upgrades are refundable once purchased.

Nevertheless, service was fine until I hit the 2TB limit! Wait, isn’t their service advertised as unlimited storage? Yes and it’s a complete lie. They do not tell you anywhere in their terms that there is actually a limit to the so-called “unlimited storage” space they claim to sell. It’s complete bullshit. Once I hit the 2TB limit I could no longer upload any file until I deleted some from my online storage, effectively freeing up some storage space. When I contacted support over this obvious erroneous issue, they acknowledged the limit and tried to get me to purchase a business account in order to access more storage space beyond what they sells as “unlimited” I guess unlimited means something else to Justcloud. I always thought the word meant no fucking limits.

To compound matters further, there was an upgrade in their client software which had a massive bug effecting numerous clients backups. Whole directories and files were wiped out or misplaced in the digital world. I lost my active license and could not access my backup which had taken several weeks and hundreds of hours of uploading. Needless to say, I informed support immediately.

I get the following response about this massive error and data loss:

Justcloud Review

Imagine being told your data can not be restored as this error could not be reverted or avoided and that my only recourse was to re-upload 1.42TB of data. Are you fucking kidding me? What kind of bullshit solution was this to offer considering they were aware of the potential problem in this upgrade. Totally pissed off, I decided to just fucking cancel their service altogether. It was no longer worth the hassle or effort to get their service to appeal to my backup needs. The false “unlimited” 2TB storage was bad enough and now to have all my data wiped due to some upgrade issue was intolerable.

Obviously they honored my request to completely cancel their service:

However, several days passed and I noticed my credit card was only refunded a portion of the total I requested. In fact, they prorated my subscription and only refunded me for the unused time as I prepaid for the year. They never gave me a refund for the additional three add-ons I purchased. In fact, I only received $75.42 instead of the entire $145.27

Justcloud Review

After much continued digital bitching I did receive the three additional add-on refunds but I never did get the remaining subscription time. Considering I only cancelled after they dropped the proverbial ball resulting in the loss of my data, I think as a send off they should have compensated me fully for my subscription expense since the time I lost using their service could not be properly rescinded in a monetary sense.

In addition after my cancellation request was received by support, I get these interesting email responses which smack of desperation and annoyance since I did make my case quite clear as to why I am cancelling.

Justcloud Review

Just take a look at the desperation via the latest email I received after being charged for an additional year subscription at 70% off. This was after receiving a refund for my initial subscription and the add-on features I purchased.

Justcloud Review

If they were indeed the best as they claimed they would have taken care to inform me about the bugs in their upgraded software prior to me losing my data and drive preferences!

Final word, avoid Justcloud and search for a better alternative if one exists. This company will nickle and dime you for every conceivable upgrade and they falsely advertise “unlimited storage” when there is indeed, a determinable limit set at 2TB for all personal accounts.

Finally after much email banter…….

Justcloud Review

I eventually received this email after all this tiresome banter. I guess no one considers proactively reading a customer complaint or email correspondence. Corporate policy would rather dictate the rather inappropriate method of responding with the usual cut and paste nonsense.
